To be a responsible dog owner is to also make sure you not only feed/water provide shelter but train your dog.
Training is essential and can start from any age! just remember the older the dog, the longer it may take as they may have years of what you refer to as “bad behaviour” to retrain out. To a dog they are behaving as they are, some of the things they do we may not like, like jumping up on us, barking 24/7, pulling when walking, digging or chewing on things they are not meant to etc.
Training builds confidence in your dog and you as the owner, it also provides mental stimulation and strengthens the bond you are trying to have with your dog.
Remember mental stimulation is very important for a dogs over all well-being. Just as important as daily exercise.
As human's, Dogs are always learning.
Training also provides some sort of structure to a dog’s life. Remember a dog is never too old to train and a dog will only ever be as good as the owner is at training it.
DON’T BLAME YOUR DOG IF YOU DO NOT TRAIN YOUR DOG!!!!
I recommend “positive reinforcement” training, this is rewarding the dog when it has done the right thing and the reward could be but not always a small treat, or a pat with praise a Favorite toy.
I also believe in one on one training, this way we are working at yours and your dog’s pace no one else’s, and there is no competition to be had with other people and their dogs.
Remember training is something you MUST keep up for the whole of your dog’s life. A 3min session of reinforcing a command a day keeps it there for the dog to remember.
